Alpaca and Silk = Drapey Softness

1 Mar

This week’s special features the return of a soft, drapey yarn from Viking of Norway: Alpaca Silk (50% alpaca/50% silk). The cute 1920s cloche-style hat shown is the Rikke hat, which was knitted by me then felted in my top-loader. The result is a dense yet structured fabric that is warm and soft, with a brushed look. Some of you might remember this hat if you visited Lil Dorothy last year. My sister wore it when she visited me just before Christmas, and then it ended up in her stocking! This sport weight, plied yarn is slightly heavier than a fingering weight, so I think it would also be great for the popular Color Affection scarf or a Leafy Bias scarf as well.

THIS WEEK: Buy 3 balls for the price of 2! Regularly $10 a ball, get three for $20. Four colours to choose from: blue, cream, gray, and blue/gray stripe. 134 m/50gr.

The Fine Print: To purchase, please send an email to with your selection and delivery preference (free delivery within Kingston, pick-up from downtown Kingston, or Canada Post [additional charge]). A PayPal invoice will be sent to you. No HST. While quantities last! Offer expires 7 March 2014.
