Shop Purlin’ J’s at the Kingston Dragonboat Festival, 19 September!

17 Sep

I hope to see you on Saturday on the grounds of the Woollen Mill at 1 Cataraqui Street in Kingston for the 16th Annual Kingston Dragonboat Festival! Purlin’ J’s yarn truck will be open from 10am to 5pm.

From “Dragon Boat racing began on the southern shores of China with the rowing of ceremonial boats to supplicate the God of Water, bring good fortune and defend against disaster. In time the tradition blended with the rural custom of punting on the Mi Lo River in remembrance of the search for the drowned body of the 4th Century B.C poet and imperial advisor, Chu Yuan.

A race has the different teams driving their boats to the beat of large drums. A team is declared winner when they are the first to grab the flag at the end of the course. Victory and defeat may be separated by a fraction of a second. It is a thrilling sport for contestants and spectators alike. Dragon boating is gaining in popularity with every year and is now practised around the world as a sport, a family spectacle, and a celebration.”

Fundraising efforts from the Festival will shared with the Partners In Mission Foodbank, Ryandale Shelter For The Homeless, Martha’s Table, and the Kingston Humane Society.

The Smokin’ Carnivore food truck will be on-site!
