Back to the Farm August 21

The Purlin’ J’s yarntruck is in Bath, Ontario this Sunday August 21 at the second-annual Back to the Farm: MacKinnon Brothers Beer and Music Festival. It’s a field party with live music, craft beer, food [and yarn] trucks, and more! The gate opens at 12 pm, the first band starts at 1 pm, and it’s all over at 10 pm.

You can park for free, and there are shuttle buses available from/to Kingston. Visit the Festival website for more information.

Tickets are $20 advance and are available now online. You can also buy them in person at: Red House (downtown), Red House (west end), Brian’s Record Option, MacKinnon Brothers Brewery (Bath), or The Brake Room (Belleville). Tickets at the gate are $25. Children under 12 are free. The entire festival grounds are licensed, and wristbands will be issued to anyone over 19.

Sheep Dog Trials Aug 5, 6, 7

Shop the Purlin’ J’s yarntruck this weekend from 9 am to 5 pm daily at the Sheep Dog Trials!

Onboard you’ll find the debut of Purlin’ J’s exclusive limited-edition yarn advent calendar, Bling Your String bags, and more!

This annual event, held at beautiful Grass Creek Park just east of Kingston, attracts over 7,000 spectators over three days: August 5, 6, and 7.

In addition to the sheep dog trials, you’ll enjoy sheep shearing, Kingston Police K-9 demonstrations, the Ready, Set, Go flyball team, Rideau River DockDogs, and a playzone for your own dog!

See spinning and weaving demos on Friday and Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm given by members of the Kingston Handloom Weavers & Spinners Guild. The Sheep-to-Shawl Competition is Saturday, 10 am to 3 pm, with the resulting shawls auctioned off on Sunday at 12:30 pm.

$15 admission at the gate. Free admission for children 12 & under.

June 25 in Lansdowne

See you Saturday, June 25 in Lansdowne, Ontario for the Lansdowne Textile Festival! Spinners, weavers, rugmakers, quilters and other fibrecrafters will demonstrate their skills, and you can shop from lots of vendors, including the Purlin’ J’s yarntruck!

Onboard this weekend you’ll find a new batch of Riverside Studio’s sock yarns in either single or plied. Lots of gorgeous colours for your summer sock knitting!

The Festival is at the Lansdowne Community Hall (1 Jessie Street) from 10 am to 4 pm. Free admission! Lunch is available for purchase.

Odessa Car Show 11/12 June

Shop the yarntruck over two full days this weekend at the Odessa Fairgrounds! The Antique and Classic Car Club of Canada (Upper Canada Region) is hosting the 43rd Odessa Car Show this weekend, June 11 and 12. In addition to the dozens of vehicles on display, there’s a flea market, craft sale, and canteen!

NEW onboard the yarntruck is Lichen and Lace‘s hand-dyed superwash merino worsted-weight yarn. Lots of yummy colours to choose from!

The yarntruck is open all day Saturday and Sunday. The Odessa Fairgrounds are 10 minutes West of Kingston, Hwy 401 exit 599 South (County Road 6). Public parking is off Shane Street. Admission is $3 and children 12 and under are free.

Kingston Scottish Festival 28 May

Your next opportunity to shop Purlin’ J’s yarntruck is this Saturday, 28 May at Rideau Acres in Kingston for the annual Scottish Festival! A full day of pipers, drummers and dancers. The day culminates with the much-anticipated mass band competition!

Food and Beer tent! Kids zone! Free Admission. Parking Charge of $5/vehicle.

The yarntruck is open 9-5. Visa, MasterCard and cash accepted. Gift certificates available.

The Day of the Pig! 22 May

The yarntruck is making its return on Sunday May 22 to our friends at Seed to Sausage in Tichborne, Ontario, near Sharbot Lake.  This year marks the fifth-year anniversary of The Day of the Pig, a full-day festival of fun, food and friends! Enjoy roast pig, top chefs, music, bubbly (and non-bubbly) beverages, an artisan market (including the yarntruck!), demonstrations and more! Come prepared to stay for the day; there’ll be tables and chairs but bring your own chair for best results!

The yarntruck is open 11:00 am to 5:00 pm Sunday May 22. Credit cards accepted. 12821 HWY 38, Tichborne (Sharbot Lake).

The Tett 7/8 May

Ladies and gentlemen, step right up! This weekend, May 7 and 8 marks the return of the Purlin’ J’s yarntruck, Lil Dorothy! I hope to see you at The Tett Centre in Kingston for the Mother’s Day Arts Expo. It is a weekend full of music, dance, unique arts, and delicious food and fibre!

The yarntruck has lots of gift ideas for mom, including gift certificates! And new this season is Purlin’ J’s ability to sell digital patterns to you onboard, thru Ravelry’s In-store Program. Come and see what’s new onboard!

Yarntruck hours are 10 am to 4 pm each day. Visa and Mastercard accepted.

Board the coach in Kingston or Brockville (you can knit while someone else drives!), arrive at the arena in Saint-André-Avellin for the annual TWIST Fibre Festival, then shop from over 125 vendors, take an afternoon workshop (separate registration required), have a break at the Foodie Fair, and then snooze on the coach back to Brockville/Kingston! Your ticket includes:

    • A return one-day journey from Kingston/Brockville to Saint-André-Avellin, Quebec, in a chartered coach with a washroom on-board, and plenty of space for all your purchases!

The Details: The bus departs Kingston at 08:00 sharp Saturday, August 20 2016 from the “Toys R Us” parking lot at Midland Ave at Princess Street. (Park your vehicle in the SW corner of the parking lot.) Please arrive by 07:45 for check-in. The bus departs Brockville at approximately 08:55  Saturday, August 20 2016 from the Food Basics parking lot off Jefferson Drive (at Stewart Blvd, behind Tim Hortons). The bus departs Saint-André-Avellin from the arena at 17:00 sharp the same day. The bus is scheduled to return to Food Basics in Brockville at approximately 20:00 and at Toys R Us in Kingston at 20:55 Saturday night. Every passenger receives a goodie bag and a door prize ticket! If you wish to enrol in a Saturday afternoon (12:00 to 17:00) workshop, please register yourself directly on the TWIST workshop page.  Don’t forget your knitting for the journey!

Knitters Frolic Day Trip

imageKnitters and fibre-lovers! Saturday, April 30 2016 is the day we Frolic in Toronto!  Once again, Purlin’ J’s Roving Yarn Co. is offering a day trip so you can relax and enjoy the ride! Board the coach in Kingston or Belleville (you can knit while someone else drives!), arrive at the Japanese Cultural Centre for the 19th Annual Knitters Frolic, and for a $7 admission fee, shop from over 50 vendors, take an afternoon workshop (separate registration required), have a break at the Frolic cafe, and then snooze on the coach back to Belleville/Kingston! Your ticket includes:

    • A return one-day journey from Kingston/Belleville to the Japanese Cultural Centre in Toronto in a chartered coach with a washroom on-board, and plenty of space for all your purchases!
    • Ample time to shop over 50 yarn and fibrecraft vendors under one roof.
    • An opportunity to enroll in several Saturday afternoon workshops, such as Slip Stitch Illusion with Fiona Ellis (separate registration required).
    • Time to take a break at the Frolic Cafe for a snack.
    • A goodie bag for every passenger!

The bus departs Belleville at approximately 09:15  Saturday, April 30 2016 from the Quinte Mall parking lot at lamppost No. 4. The bus departs Toronto from the Japanese Cultural Centre at 17:15 sharp the same day. If you are enrolled in an afternoon workshop, it will end at 17:00 so you have a bit of time to get to the bus.The bus will make a comfort stop on the way back to Kingston. The bus is scheduled to return to the Quinte Mall in Belleville at approximately 20:00 and at Toys R Us in Kingston at 20:45 Saturday night. Every passenger receives a goodie bag and a door prize ticket! Book on or before March 18 and get an extra entry to win the grand prize draw, valued at over $100! If you wish to enroll in a Saturday afternoon (12:00 to 17:00) workshop, please register yourself directly on the Knitters Frolic workshop page. Don’t forget your knitting for the journey!
